Twitter plans new mobile music app

CBR Staff Writer Published 14 March 2013

Twitter is reportedly planning to launch a new mobile music application allowing users to play and share music from SoundCloud on Apple devices.

The iOS app is being developed by We Are Hunted an Australian based digital-media startup acquired by Twitter in 2012, according to CNET.

The app, dubbed Twitter Music, would allow users to play and share music from SoundCloud on Apple devices.

We Are Hunted taps into message boards, P2P networks, blogs and social media and offers a continuously updated list of 99 songs trending online and its clients include platforms such as Spotify and Winamp.

SoundCloud audio-sharing service allows artists and music labels to offer songs to users who can listen and make notations on the tracks.

The collaboration would allow Twitter users to share these songs through their mobile phones.

In January 2013, Twitter launched a new video service letting users capture and share brief, looping videos, a development which was not welcomed by Facebook.
