The new Apps Sync to move data from Microsoft exchange servers to Google
Google has unveiled new software that will allow businesses using Microsoft Outlook to switch to its cloud-based online service.
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook allows Outlook users to connect to Google Apps for e-mail, calendar and contacts data. It also allows users to continue using Outlook, but the back-end functionality and storage, instead of residing on the Microsoft’s internal servers, would move on to Google servers.
Chris Vander Mey, senior product manager at Google, said: We look at this as a way to provide choice for users who like to do things the old, Outlook way.”
The Google’s Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook is free for users of Premier Edition of Google Apps, who are paying $50 per business user.
Genentech, a California-based biotech company, is one of the largest companies to switch to Google Apps.
Chris O'Connor, director of IT at Genentech said that Google is one of their five strategic IT plaforms.
