RIM is planning to launch six new BlackBerry 10 devices for various types of budgets.
Research In Motion (RIM) has added nearly 15,000 apps to its BlackBerry App World store over the weekend, as part of the firm's 'Port-a-thon' promotion.
The promotion paid developers $100 respectively to develop apps for the new BlackBerry 10 platform.
RIM VP of developer relations Alec Saunders said in a twitter message that the mini-contest attracted about 15,000 new app submissions within 37.5 hours.
"Well there you have it. 37.5 hours in, we hit 15,000 apps for this portathon. Feel like I've run a marathon. Thanks to all the devs!"Saunders said.
The Canadian firm is planning to launch the long-awaited BlackBerry 10 operating system (OS), along with two new smartphones, including the BlackBerry Z10 (L-Series) and full Qwerty (N-Series), that are powered by the new OS, on 30 January 2013.
The company will also launch about 70,000 new applications at the event, in a bid to meet its target to support 90% of the top 600 most popular apps in the global app market.
The six new BlackBerry 10 devices are expected to cover the range for high, middle and low-end price sectors.
