Atos' new platform paves way for citizen-city interaction via mobile channel

First deployed for Barcelona City Council

Information technology services firm Atos has introduced its MyCity platform, which the company says will improve citizen's interaction with their city through the mobile channel.

The new suite of services, first deployed for Barcelona City Council, is expected to enable clients to securely deliver context aware services based on a commercial model that uses transactional-based pricing, so pay-per-use.

MyCity platform consist of Atos-developed mobile applications, which are hosted on the company's servers, hence avoiding deployments costs and offering a pay-per-use model.

The company is also planning to add more applications, which may include FixThis for reporting geo-located photo incidences with smartphones, Next2Me to look for nearby services classified in different categories, City Transport, and iBiking for helping users to get the appropriate up-to-date cycling system information.

It may also include City Agenda for cultural and leisure events based in geo-location search, City Traffic for reviewing real time traffic status, M-Parking for finding public parking places, City Beaches that will allow users to know the status and services offered by beaches.

Barcelona City Council CIO Manel Sanromà said they have reaped a lot of success by offering MyCity services to their citizens and have received positive feedback.

"It clearly demonstrates that we have filled a need, a need of more connectivity and facilitate access to municipal services for the citizen at any time and from anywhere," Sanromà said.

Atos Smart Mobility director Santi Ristol said the pioneer project deployed in Barcelona, is now inspiring other European cities, where Atos technologists are helping organisations to exploit and benefit from the latest advances in mobile technology, improved connectivity and the increase in availability of data.
