Downloads of over 60% of educational iTunes U apps were reported from outside US
Apple said that the iTunes U, home to free educational content downloads, have reached the one billion mark.
The content includes online catalogue of lectures, assignments, books, quizzes and other educational content from schools, libraries, museums and organisations helping educators create courses for iOS users across the globe.
Downloads of over 60% of iTunes U app were reported from outside the US, the company said.
Apple Internet Software and Services senior vice president Eddy Cue said that it's inspiring to see what educators and students of all sorts are doing with iTunes U.
"With the incredible content offered on iTunes U, students can learn like never before?there are now iTunes U courses with more than 250,000 students enrolled in them, which is a phenomenal shift in the way we teach and learn," Cue added.
The iTunes U allows educators to create courses in 30 countries including Brazil, South Korea, Turkey and United Arab Emirates, while the content can be accessed by iOS users in 155 countries, Apple said.
