Enterprise-grade development platform to build rich native applications that integrate with the cloud

Appcelerator, a provider of native mobile, desktop, and tablet applications using web technologies, has acquired Aptana, a provider of integrated development environment (IDE) for building web applications.

Through this acquisition, Appcelerator will provide next-gen application development by providing web developers with an enterprise-grade development platform to build rich native applications that integrate easily with the cloud.

Appcelerator said it will combine its web development community with Aptana's web development community, to create an application development base of over 1,500,000 application developers.

Appcelerator CEO Jeff Haynie said the company is focused on enabling the best possible native application experience by empowering their growing community of developers to build, test, and deploy native, cloud-connected mobile applications faster and with higher quality than ever before.
